In January 2003, just days after Joe’s death, a group of Brighton fans of Joe, young and old, put together a small event to mark his passing and to celebrate the life of this inspirational musician and campaigner.
Eleven years on, it has become one of the best-established Joe Strummer annual events, raising money for the Strummerville Foundation and keeping the spirit of Joe alive and well on the South Coast.
2014′s event will be back at the Komedia in Brighton on the 4th January and the ragged army will once again raise a glass to Joe and the lasting influence that he has on our culture and our politics.
Headlining the night once again are Take The 5th, who cover Clash songs from Janie Jones through to Mescaleros-era Coma Girl. Taking their name from the title given by The Clash to their second US tour in 1979, Take The 5th have been gigging for years, with their blend of rock and reggae recapturing the unique mood of the most vibrant of times. They are supported by the Ramona’s …..all girl Ramones tribute.
