Biography

‘icon girl pistols’ formed in March 2008 when Shinnosuke Shirakura (vo/gt/pf) and Ken Fukuda (dr) began jamming together in the studio where they should have been working. Soon the pair had a significant collection of songs that they were performing live - either as a two-piece or with support from their invisible friends. After touring Taiwan with Shinnosuke's other group ‘quizmaster’ in the summer the duo returned to Tokyo only to encounter rambling welshman Christopher David O'Reilly (bass). The lineup was completed in May 2009, when long time friend and solo artist Takashi Hasegawa (gt/vo) was invited to play a one-off show with the pistols, only for everyone to realize that he was destined to be an icon girl.

Having finally reached their full potential as a four-piece, icon girl pistols are proud to present their debut album, 'new currency'. Mixing elements of punk, folk and classic rock 'n' roll, the record leads you dancing through 13 tales of corruption & sin, piracy & prostitution. But as Shinnosuke is quick to explain, "I have never written anything but love songs." With Taiwan dates scheduled for November and a European tour lined up for 2010, expect to be a lot more from icon girl pistols.
