Strummerville is delighted to showcase ... Paper Plane Pilots are a post-punk four piece, currently located within the urban/rural mish-mash which is north somerset. Originally formed as an indie-rock three piece in late 2007, founding members included Asher Preston (Drums/Lead Vocals), Paul Rosser (Bass/Backing Vocals) and Craig Barrett (Guitar), they went through a number of various permutations, genre adaptions and personnel changes throughout the first few months, before finally settling on the current format following the introduction of former Royal Males guitarist Joshua Scarratt in the summer of 2008. Since this point they have focused on writing a range of both challenging and distinctly original material, establishing themselves throughout the South West with their uniquely energetic live performances. Acknowledgement of their success came through them being voted as the best new band in Stummerville’s Somerset Showcase competition, combined with key support slots with band’s such as Babyshambles. 2008 also saw them record their first professional demo with producer Richard Sparks in his countryside studio.
Drawing influence from a range of different genres and musical icons, from Billy Childish to David Bowie and Bob Dylan to Bloc Party, Paper Plane Pilots have crafted a sound which encapsulates both the punk ethos and the songwriting complexities they hold so dear, showcased perfectly through the raw energy expressed in their live shows
