Good Apples

When history supposedly ended with Cold War in or around November 1989, four children fell right through the cracks of the tectonic changes. These four kids didn’t feel like celebrating their poppy selves optimistically.

They also despised the idea of bemoaning their grungy selves depressingly. They were likewise far removed from the remaining option, that of adopting a persona of a thug from global ghettoes and slums.

Unable to face the present of the New World Order and to either turn their frowns upside down or become street-fighting oppressed gangstas, they found themselves suspended between the past and the future.

The past is the Cold War, Nuclear Age, Space Age, and Rock’n’Roll, all of which they have been mentally reprocessing over and over. The future is a dystopia of a world hopelessly battered by global warming and man-made disasters both in war and peace.

In that suspension of time and disbelief, history is a zombie and all bets are off. On the unacknowledged twentieth anniversary of the moment it all ended and then began again, those kids-between-the-cracks gathered to create music as Good Apples.

Their collaborative songwriting begins with improvisation and goes though revision and much practice, and results in a unique blend of influences that each member brings, from old school punk to psychedelic rock, to noise. You can catch Good Apples live in one of Chicago’s indie rock venues.
