The Supernovas have been playing together since the tender age of 16, tearing up stages the length and breadth of the country.
In January 2009 The Supernovas signed to 360 Degree Music and pretty much before the ink on the contract was dry the band decamped to the wilds of leafy Hampshire, where they holed up for three days of recording. The fruits of these sessions produced their debut single, Ace Face, a damning indictment of a typical lowlife coke dealing blagger, backed with the blistering Sgt. Major.
The final months of 2009 saw The Supernovas playing around the UK, culminating in a series of shows supporting Babyshambles, and an end of year party at London’s Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, with labelmates Krakatoa and Inwits.
Early 2010 has started as the previous year ended, and the band have recorded a slew of new material, as well as playing around the UK, before jetting off across the Atlantic for their first US visit.
Hot on the heels of their triumphant visit to SXSW in Austin, Texas, The Supernovas return home and unleash their second single Slaughter In The Gaza. Available as an uber-limited one track CD single and from the usual digital outlets. The track is already picking up airplay, particularly in Ireland, where singer Joei’s Derry heritage has guaranteed the band cult status.
Strummerville are fresh off our amazing trip to SXSW where we presented our take-over on the opening night of The British Music Embassy and our official showcase at Prague on 17 March.
Thanks to Supernovas, Smokey Angle Shades, Nat Jenkins, Beans On Toast and The Riff-Raff for making our debut at SXSW such a great experience. And thanks to Billy Bragg, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Chis Shiflett, The Good The Bad and Wayne Kramer for their support and awesome shows.
We were joined in Austin by Don Letts who presented his film also called Strummerville at the Paramount on 19 March. Big thanks also to Don for his wonderful support.
It truly was a positive and powerful experience for everyone involved.
Grammy-award winning filmmaker Don Letts talks about “Strummerville,” the documentary focusing on the charity that rose up in the aftermath of the death of Clash singer / guitarist Joe Strummer, during the film’s World Premiere at the 2010 SXSW Film Festival.
Letts also talks about his work as the first house DJ at the Roxy in London, which helped influence the Ska and Punk movements producing bands like the Clash and the Sex Pistols.
