The Welcome Committee is a 2 piece band from South London via Southend. We self released our debut e.p ‘This Book Belongs To Lorri Spice’ in early 2010. The e.p picked up radio play on Steve Lamacq’s BBC Radio 1 show ‘In New music we trust’, John Kennedy’s XFM show ‘X-posure’ and many others. Rock Sound magazine gave the e.p 8/10 and also featured the music video of the title track on their website. Late 2010 saw our first shows abroad in Spain, a 4 date tour ending in Madrid.
Early 2011 we hit the 4AD studios with Tom Morris (Boxer Rebellion, Japanese Voyeurs) to record 2 brand new tracks. 1 of the tracks ‘Rich Kids’ was featured on the ‘Strummerville & Brothers cider songs of the summer 2011′ compilation, and also had a music video made to promote it. Summer 2011 we hit the road playing all over the UK, highlights including, supporting Frank Turner at his 1000th show, Noel Fieldings Art Exhibit, and many festivals including the Communion records run ‘Bushstock’. Late 2011 / 2012 will see the release of our second e.p.
“Joe Shergold and Ken Canham create a kind of indietronica full of emotive vocals and anthemic builds that has garnered a lot of radio interest.” – Dazed & Confused
“Songs such as ‘Famous First Words’ build and build before blossoming into a fantastic layering of pop melodies’ 8/10 – Rock Sound, Oct ’10
